Swindon Open Studios 2015-Weekend 2

Hello,

We had a nice turnout last weekend for the Swindon Open Studios 2015. We had around 100 visitors coming to have a look at our work and ask questions which was nice. I did not take many pictures I'm afraid. However, I'm happy to say I was able to rework and finish some pieces which I had started a while back. These originally were all on one large sheet of watercolour paper. I decided which parts I wanted to keep then I sectioned them off and created four separate pieces which were then adhered onto streatched canvas.

Here is a sketch I did on Sunday. 

The exhibit will come down on Sunday, 27 September so if you have not had a chance to see it, I would recommend a visit to the Central Library.

WIP Wednesday 7

Hello,

Here is another piece I'm working on-

This is the original image from a magazine. 

 Once it was transfered onto the canvas the image was reversed.
The background is a combination of stencil patterns using acrylic paints.
I also used acrylic markers on the model's hair and dress.

I felt the painting needed more excitement in the background-I added black lines and used dollies to stencil a pattern. Butterflies cut from magazines were added to her hair and skeleton leaves were used as earrings. I will let this dry and see what else it needs...

WIP Wednesday 6

Hello,

Here is an update on last week's pieces.

Here I collaged the butterflies, pressed flower petals and two skeleton leaves.

I added a bit of sepia coloured paint to the model's face and body so that the bare canvas would not stand out as much and it also gives it an antique look.

Here I collaged the butterfly wings and used magazine pages for the floral headdress.

I will wait a bit more and see what else the paintings need.

Work In Progress...

Here are some photos of paintings I've been working on lately; they are not finished and need to dry before I work on them further. Here's a look-

Here is a look at the steps 1-6 for this painting, I painted all the portraits with water mixable oil paints. I then used magazines and wrapping paper for everything else. This is the original sketch.

In this one, apart from paints, I used handmade paper, flower petals, magazines, scrapbook paper and skeleton leaves. This is the original sketch.

So far, I have just painted the figures and the backgrounds with water mixable oil paints.

Works In Progress...

Hello,

I'm still working on these; I added some more feathers, skeleton leaves and magazine cutouts since the last time you saw them. The next step will be to work on the backgrounds- adding clouds, filling in the sky more, etc. It was such a nice day and evening I thought I would photograph the painting outside in our garden. I really like the way they are progressing. What do you think?

What I'm Working On...

Hello,

This is a piece that I'm working on now. I started it months ago but put it down to work on other smaller artwork. I tacked it to my bulletin board so I can see what it looks like hanging up. I did most of the work while it was on my small table in the studio. There are two others which are "sisters" to this one and will hang together when they are finished. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Happy 1st September and Work in Progress...

Hello,

Happy 1st September everyone.

My son will be starting school again next week. Last year he was in the Badgers class at his school, this year he'll be in the Rabbits class. When I asked him if he looking forward to school he said-"Boring, homework is boring". That was also his reaction when I asked him what he thought of his first year at school back in July.

He's missing his school friends though and I'm glad he'll be going back soon, for both our sakes. He'll be fine once he sees everyone and they all get back into their routines. I know he's looking forward to seeing his teachers from last year to tell them how he lost his first baby tooth and how he's got another tooth ready to fall as well.

This is a piece I'm working on at the moment- using an image transferring technique of magazine images, skeleton leaves, feathers on a coffee stained background.

I ordered the fabric for the quilt cover and it should arrive in a couple of days.
