Work in Progress-More Colour is Needed!

Hello,
Here is a look at the work I've been up to lately...
To look back on how these paintings looked before, click here-When I sat with them a bit more, I realised they were all crying out "more colour please". I started out by using Dylusions Ink Sprays, I then cut out and collaged images from colouring books, added colour with acrylic inks and Faber Castell Gel Sticks. I then added some stamps and stencils using acrylic paints. I will let them dry and  then see what else they need.
Bye for now.

WIP Wednesday 9

Hello,
Here are some paintings I've started recently on canvas.
Stage 1- I collaged printed tissue papers on most of the canvases to create a background. I chose them because I liked the graphics and details on them. I then added spots of colour using acrylic paints and stencils. I wanted to give the painting some texture so I used the same molding paste as in my last painting.
After a few days...
Stage 2- I then tore some handmade paper and collaged it over some of the white areas. I've had this paper for a long time and thought now would be a good time to use it. Its bright and quirky, which I like and makes a nice contrast up against the first layer of paper. I then used purple acrylic paint to cover the edges and over some of the printed papers.
Not sure what Stage 3 will be; will have to sit with these a bit more and see where they take me.
Bye for now.

Happy Valentine's Day Prints

Hello,
Here are some heart inspired mixed media prints. I used acrylic paints, acrylic inks and oil pastels non-wax baking paper. The hearts and cherubs were done using foam stamps. I also stenciled on top of the prints using heart shaped cutouts.
Enjoy!
Bye for now.

WIP-Grey Butterfly Update...

Hello,
I did a bit of work on this painting recently. The last time you saw it, it was lacking a bit of colour.

The royal blue areas are created with a stencil. To add texture I mixed acrylic paint with Golden Molding Paste. Here is a close up-
The pink areas also have molding paste mixed with acrylic paints and acrylic inks.
I will let it dry and sit with it some more before I declare it "finished".
Bye for now.

WIP-Grey Butterfly

Hello,
Slowly, but surely the studio is getting a bit more organised. I try and do a bit every time I'm there so it doesn't get too overwhelming. Today, I also made some changes to my latest mixed media painting.
I collaged two drawings which I had made in my sketch book; they were drawn using black gel pens. At the moment they stand out a lot because the paper is so white. I will probably add some colour to them. I also experimented with making some stencils using hot glue. I did them freehanded, which meant I didn't follow a drawing or pattern. I will try and use them for this piece and see what happens.
Bye for now.

Happy 2016!

Hello,
I hope you all had a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. We had a relaxing time off-filled with lots of family, friends, food and laughter. And of course lots of sleeping in late. After a two week break, I go back to work tomorrow.
I haven't done much in the way of art lately-mainly trying to be a bit more organised with a fresh start. I've updated the look of my blog, added some images and information to my website which I will post soon. I've started my yearly routine of clearing out my studio and getting rid of stuff I've been holding onto all year-but haven't done anything with. A lot of it will either be recycled or given to local schools or artists' groups.
This is a mixed media painting I started at the end of December; I hope to get back to it soon.

During my down time, when I'm not in the studio-I enjoy going on Pinterest; if I'm not careful I can spend hours on it. I sometimes post my work on it but mainly use it for inspiration, advice and ideas on various projects. Here are some of my colour inspiration pins, hope you enjoy-

Bye for now.
