Hello,
Many people will be celebrating Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead throughout Mexico and other Latin countries; its celebrated between 31 October -2 November. Family members and friends gather together to pray for and remember their loved ones who have died. The tradition also includs building private altars called ofrendas to honour the deceased with sugar skulls, marigold flowers, the deceased favourite food and some of their belongings. Many people will also wear traditional Mexican clothing and paint "sugar skull"on their faces.
One of the blogs I regularly follow is an artist named Denise, her blog is
Permama. She celebrates Dia de los Muertos and has a really cute video on there which illustrates what the tradition is about.
There's also an article on
Mamiverse about the celebration.
I've also seen loads of images lately using the "sugar skull" design.
I thought I would make my own version of a sugar skull; I used models from a magazine and painted them using acrylic and gouache paints.
I also tried it on me. What do you think?
Bye for now.
