Experimenting With Salt-the results
Hello,
The paintings dried in the nice bright sun yesterday; I then rubbed off the salt.
The first two paintings-the blue ones, were more successful. I think because I added the salt when the paintings were very wet. The green painting are not as successful, but I still like the backgrounds. But I wanted to add some more interest to them, so I decided to use masking fluid with a brush to block out some areas of the paintings.
Once the masking fluid dries I will add some textures with stencilling and stamps.
Bye for now.

Experimenting With Salt
Hello,
Today I thought I would start working on some pieces using salt to create interesting backgrounds. I did this years ago when I was in school and it was quite effecting, creating like a batik or tie-dye effect.
The watercolour papers were painted with a mixed of watercolour, acrylics and acrylic inks.
They were then sprinkled with table salt.
Because the sun was out, I decided to let the paintings dry outside on the wash line. Once they are dry, I'll scrap off the salt and see what the effect is.
Bye for now.
Big Arts Day 2012
Hello,
Although it rained for most of the day and parking was not possible because of all the rain we've had lately, we had a decent turn out. I was not able to walk around and take photos. But Linda Kasmaty did a nice blog post on the Swindon Open Studios blog about the event.
Bye for now.

Thread Paintings 2...
Hello,
In these three pieces I used an image of a flower which I scanned on my computer and printed on paper. I then cut them up in random shapes, glued them onto watercolour paper and then used a running stitch on my sewing machine. The thread I used is an ombre shade, so it goes from light blue, to medium, to dark teal. I then painted in the white areas to finish the shapes of the petals I sewed.
I might try some more.
Bye for now.

Paintings I'm Working On...
Hello,
I tend to work on several projects at the same time. It keeps my ideas flowing and it motivates me to other things. But sometimes I need to stop working on a piece and put it aside until I'm inspired to work on it again. Other times, I need to just sit with pieces until they "speak" to me to let me know what I should do next.
This mixed media painting is tacked to my bulletin board in my studio. I've been working on it for a few days now, there's still some work to be done here. But I'm happy with it so far.
These next pieces, I'm calling The Three Sisters. The idea first came to me from a collage I did in my sketchbook. I started working on them almost a year ago! This one was the first I transferred onto a canvas. I used handmade papers and water mixable oil paints.
The second one of the series, and no, it's not upside down. Still a few more things to add.
The third one, I need to work on this more some more.
Bye for now.
